Tony Awards Countdown: Some of my favorite old Tony performances

The Tony Awards are next Sunday the 9th — and to get exited about it, I was browsing through old footage of the shows. Here, to countdown to this years show, some of my favorite clips from past Tony awards. Did I miss a great one??

First — before the clips, the promo spots for the show:

and now on to my favorites:

Original Cast of Rent…

…and The reunion of the Rent cast in 1998 (this actually makes me tear up)

What if Life were more like the theater – NPH

And I am telling you – Dreamgirls – such an amazing song

Lin Manuel Miranda Tony acceptance Speech…

… and In the Heights performance

1988- Anything Goes

Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford – Phantom of the Opera

Spring Awakening (back when Lea Michelle and Jonathan Groff were just starting)

Jersey Boys

Les Mis

Defying Gravity – Wicked

Lion King coming back to the Tonys in 2008

Cats 1983

Tony awards 2009 opening number

And in honour of Pippin being revived and nominated this year, the original performance…

These ones I had already posted in my Award show Hosts post, but they have to be repeated here:

This is NPH at his best!
