2019 Tony Awards Roundup

The Tony awards, my favorite award show was yesterday, as as always we will do the post show roundup!

My General thoughts

  • Loved James Corden and his opening.
  • Also Michael in the Bathroom being reprised as James in the bathroom – that song was probably the best part of Be more chill and it was nice to see it in the show given that George Salazar didnt get to perform it live
  • loved Andre de Shields speech, with his 3 lessons (and can we talk about how cool his shoes were) as well as Rachel Chavkin speech and her call for more female directors, so appropriate
  • Why were the other shows of the season not nominated for best musical- be more chill and pretty woman not allowed to do a number like Cher did? Be more chill had a score nomination and pretty woman would have been great fare for the folks at home
  • Cynthia Erivo gave me the chills.

Performances

  • My favorite performances
    • too darn hot from Kiss Me Kate is always a great bet witht he amazing dancing
    • The Prom was so cute, and i loved that they kept the kiss, although the number is a bit of a spoiler fest
    • Aint to Proud made me really excited to go see the show on Satuday!
    • Beetlejuice: Loved that they included tony lyrics
  • The rest of the Performances :
    • The Cher Show: Loved that they did the costumes, I would have liked another song though
    • Oklahoma: I really enjoyed  I can’t say no however I was on the fence about Oklahoma
    • Tootsie – I thought the performance was going to be better, it wasnt bad, I just expected a bit more
