Just realized I had another post not sent, so here it goes, my recap of the Tonys (one week late) Unlike previous years this one was much more exiting as I was actually there! so lots of pictures from the ceremony will follow. My Favorite Musical Moments
- Fun Home
- Something Rotten
- It Shoulda Been You
- The King and I
My Favorite non musical Moments:
- Kelli O’hara dancing off as she won the Tony
- Ruthie Ann Miles pulling off her iphone to read her speech
- Alex Sharp speech
- The female empowerment feeling of the whole show – especially the Fun Home wins for Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron
- The new award for best teacher (even if it was a CMU infomercial – especially in the preshow). I think its a wonderful thing to honor influential teachers. Side note: kind of crazy that there is so much confluence in education from the greats, Kristin Chenoweth and Kelli Ohara went to the same College, sooo many went to CMU and Darren Criss and Adam Jacobs went to the same high school!
- Alan Cummings getting stuck with his King and I skirt in the middle of the stage
Other Thoughts:
- I do not get The Visit . Even if it is Chita Rivera – and alas, it closed so i cant really go see it to understand why it was nominated.
- I think I might need to revisit American In Paris. I was a bit harsh in the review and i liked the performances more in the show, so maybe i should give it another shot not in previews?
- I loved the fact that I was in the audience and got to see all the awards! so many of the best speeches and moments were not televised!
- I missed a great musical opening number. The shtick they did just did not cut it compared to the wonderful opening numbers of NPH and Hugh Jackman
