Book Reviews: A Court of Thorns and Roses Series

A Court of Thorns and Roses

Goodreads blurb: Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price … Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

I’m not spoiling the blurbs for the next two books as it basically ruins the continuity, but these are book 2 and 3,

A Court of Mist and Fury

A Court of Wings and Ruin

My take: A Court of Thorns and Roses 4, A Court of Mist and Fury 4.5 and A Court of Wings and Ruin 3.5 for an average of 4 stars 😉

I was browsing the NYTimes bestsellers list (because that is something I do) and I saw a book called A Court of Silver Flames. It sounded interesting and saw that it was book 5 of a fantasy YA series. Reading more up to it, apparently it was a very popular YA fantasy series, so i had some audible credits and a lot of driving to do, so I figured I would download the first one. Which sent me down a rabbit hole of many an hours of audible obsession over Freye and her story.

I dont put the description of book 2 and 3 beacuse it kind of ruins the mistery of book to book, but just know that once you put book 1 down you are going to have to have book 2 handy and the same from book 2 to 3.

Reading the first book I was thinking it is a mix Game of Thrones with the Discovery of Witches, the wix Saga, with Twilight and a little bit of Beauty and The Beast. Sounds weird but I was totally into it. The descriptions are great and it mixes the battle with romance with politics pretty well so that its not overpowered to any one side. Not to get to spoilery on you, but I absolutely loved how the book just kept throwing turns that I did not expect. The change from book 1 to book 2 was spectacular (IYKYK) . I was totally up for that ride and allegiances change so quickly I shifted teams in a second. I also love how women quick ass here and are not just damsels in distress. That always makes me like an action series/movie even more!

My only qualm is the ending is a little bit too perfect. I was expecting more drama and heartache. A little bit like Game of Thrones where more blood gets spilled on the floor, but nevertheless its was an awesome series, I want the movie now (I’m dream casting in my mind) and although i might need a little fantasy break I’m lookin forward to starting book 5 soon (I’ve heard book 4 is not needed so, we will see if i do a quick read of that before starting the new one)
