A few days late but I finally managed to get out my TONY awards roundup. I love awards shows and this is by far my favorite award show! How can I not love it given my obsession with theater, and the wonderful ratio of performances to awards!
Things that I liked:
- Idina bringing the house down with the performance of Always Starting Over from If/then
- Everything about Neil Patrick Harris – his performance was amazing and he won! so icing on the cake
- HughJackman’s introduction of the female actress awards
- James Monroe Iglehart – Everything about him is cool – from his performance to his little dance when he won, to him dancing along to the rap segment – the guy just has personality
- Jessie Mueller winning- i am not a fan of the book of the show beautiful, but i cant deny her wonderful performance and hearing me some Carol King in the show was great
- Ramin Karimloo
- Jefferson Mays quick changes introducing the performance from Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder
- Audra wining her 6th tony
- The closing number!
Things I didn’t Like:
- The Wicked 10 year tribute – good choice of song in For Good, but did they really not involve kristin or Idina at all??? Idina was in the house! They could have done something like the 10 year anniversary of RENT where the current cast was joined by the old cast.
- The After Midnight performance. One of the few shows I had not seen and it still didnt get me excited to go but a ticket.
- Did the voters really think If/then and Bridges of Madison where so bad that they didnt warrant the 5th nominated slot! I think more love should be given to original Shows
- High Jackman’s opening – the fact that i had to google to understand it made no sense to me
- The actual performance from Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder – again i wasnt rushing to the box office
- Violet’s number should have had more Sutton
- Sting’s the Last Ship – yes I dont think im buying a ticket to that show
performance I am of the fence about: Jennifer Hudson singing the song from Neverland. Yes she knoked it out of the park, but why was she singing it? why now? why did these two musicals over everything else et the honors?
