Summer TV Recap
We really can’t go into the Fall TV without discussing what was great about Summer TV and the fabulousness that are Netflix binges. I spoke on some of my recent obsessions and made some predictions in the summer preview – however here’s what I really loved and would recommend:
Queen of the South: loved it, even given the fact that it was all about drugdealers my least favorite subject- that says a lot.
The rest of the shows I watched a couple of episodes but didn’t get hooked. I did get hooked on a show that I had not listed on my preview and its so good: Greenleaf. Oprah knows how to make them. I mean I have always said churches and pastors had to have a lot of drama, and this shows it!
I also had two Netflix binges
Stranger Things
Narcos – I had refused to watch this because I really didn’t want to relieve this terrible part of our Colombia history and because I hated the accent of the guy playing Pablo. I was wrong. It is terribly addictive and I watched two seasons straight.
Fall TV
After that well I was ready to start watching new Fall TV. As always here are the pilots I have watched, and have sorted them in the usual categories:
Season Pass: I loved it, will probably watch all season and for me it’s worth Buying a Season Pass
Pitch: I had Pitch in my definite to check out category and it did not disappoint. Not only is it a really original and cool story, the actors are fabulous and the pilot is so well made. I felt I was watching a movie. My only concern is how the story will play out (it’s really a totally movie concept) but im excited to see how that unfolds
This is Us Although the pilot is much stronger than its second episode I am still quite intrigued by this sweet family drama. A perfect substitute for the WB classics/Parenthood hole in my tv watching schedule.
Timeless: This could go really wrong, but right now its really right. Time travel and a history lesson all in one. Additionally, the cast is fabulous!
So far so good: Really liking it, but will wait a little bit more for a full on commitment
Designated Survivor I love Kiefer Sutherland, but episode 2 was a little bit off, so hopefully it remains as strong and original as the pilot was.
Speechless It is a really really funny pilot, that I was not expecting to enjoy as much as I did. (that is saying a lot as I generally hate all comedies)
The Good Place I love Kristin Bell and she has a gem of a show here.
Conviction– It has a lot of potential. I’m a big fan of Hayley Atwell and she has a good role here. This could turn out great or sour.
OK but not great: Willing to give it another episode before I kill it
Bull yet another lawyer show, but this one at least comes from it in a creative way. The cast is great
Notorious I was really looking forward to this show and it just left me lukewarm. It definitely does not fill Scandal shoes, but I might watch it when I have nothing else to see.
Frequency: I liked it, and it might jump a category but I really don’t know how it will sustain the other episodes. Also there are two time travel weird shows and I liked Timeless more
No Tomorrow: At the beginning I was a little hesitant but it got me by the end of the pilot. However I don’t know if it might become gimmicky.
No way: definitely not seeing another episode
McGyver mm no! even my dad hated this pilot
Really they are just not my thing … and actually might be very good for other people

New Category: I refused to waste my time even with the pilot
Son of Zorn – really i was not about to waste my time.
Kevin Can Wait – the fact that this looks pretty much like a copy of his previous show which I hated made me not even want to watch it

how did last years Fall Watch turn out:
Season Pass: Quantico, Limitless. Loved both and saw the entire season
So far so good: Blood and Oil, Grandfathered, Blindspot: Of these the only one that kept a spot on my TV watching grid was Blindspot. It earned its season pass. The others were not only ditched by me, but by the networks as well.
OK but not great: Minority Report, Neil Patricks Best Night Ever, Code Black: Did not see a single episode more of these.
No way: Life in Pieces, Scream Queens, Grinder, The muppets, Dr Ken. THey remained out of my radar, and apart from Scream Queens cancelled.
