Going down the rabbit hole – a fabulous meal at the Alchemist

Getting to have an Experience at the Alchemist restaurant in Copenhagen was absolutely amazing. And lets be clear, its an experience because its not just about the food. Its a full artistic 5 hour event where you will eat amazingly but also all your senses will be involved and you will go through a serious performance. Here is what we ate, as well as most of the experience that I managed to capture. It is more than worth the price if you manage to snag a reservation.

Menu

ACT 1 – Entrance – the Subconcsious

this was a trip, you basically get a dancer as soon as you arrive in this psychodelic room, feeding you different extracts, right of the gate you know you are in for a show

ACT II – The Lounge

The first courses are given in the lounge, where the beautiful wine cellar is as well as the kitchen, This might have been my favorite part as 1. the wine cellar is gorgeous but also, they were the most tasty bites of the night

  • Daisy
  • Smokey Ball
  • Nordic Dosa – this was tiny but had all the flavors of a dosa, i dont know how they did it but I want 100 of them in my life
  • Omelette – inspired by how making a perfect omelette is a sign of a great chef, this was their interpretation in an amuse bouche and I would have this for breakfast every day
  • Sunburnt Bikini – an interpretation of the spanish bikini sandwich, the ham and cheese croquette was out of this world
  • Guava Tepache
  • Bouncy Rice

Of note in this act as well, the wine list is a thing of beauty

ACT III – The Dome

You then go up the stairs to the dome. This is what the dome actually looks like (ill share the different videos below, as they are constantly changing, and which are called settings)

SCENE 1

  • Moon Jellyfish ive never had jellyfish and its actually quite nice and refreshing
  • 1984 – this was a trip but also totally tasty?
  • Caviar Marble – absolute beauty. The caviar is worked to look like marble and its not only beautiful but so delicious
  • Uni & Wasabi – i dont do Uni so i got nice vegetables instead
  • Lobster Claw – this might have been my favorite dish of the night after the little bites, and one of my favorite restaurant dishes ever. Not only is it gorgeously presented but it was so delicious. Perfect lobster in my book
  • Plastic Fantastic this was a bizarre dish, a commentary on the pollution of our oceans, but man was it a tasty social commentary. the texture felt weird at first but then it melted in your mouth and it was wonderful

SCENE 2

  • Tongue Kiss – its funny that this doesn’t even crack the top 2 of weird dishes of the night. This one was more interesting than tasty. /it tasted fine, but nothing to write home about but the concept of eating it out of a tongue was sensorially really weird and I guess that was the point
  • Litophane Pablo-matic – When i say the food was art its true and here you have literal art. Making a pablo picasso picture of a mash is genius. Like total genious.
  • Food For Thought – this does crack the top 2 in weirdness, especially when the brain moved.
  • Pigeon In The Grave – total contrast here, a grave but also so beautiful

SCENE 3

  • Airy Bread – these potatoes were absolutely perfection, melt in your mouth.
  • Hunger – this carpaccio has a macabre presentation, but it was delightful, even though i did not think i would be eating this raw
  • Wiped Out – this is hilarious. it is bugs on a windowpane and you eat them with a windshield wiper. And it actually tastes good? yes but the performance is everything.
  • Burnout Chicken – this was a total show, and it was delicious. Total social commentary with the feet but the top was delicious like a little chicken croquette.

SCENE 4

the desserts were pure art, in the absolute literal sense

  • Woodruff
  • A Wish For Peace
  • The Scream – you basically ate this one bottom to top and the flavor started getting more and more acidic until and the end you ended up screaming with the final bite. Brilliant
  • Eight Layers Of Life – you circle back to the first images of the heart in the dome with a chocolate literal heart
  • Illusion – this was beautiful

ACT IV – Consious

you then move on to another room with the dancer. At this point you have had so much wine you are happy to dance with her – and find the door to your next adventure.

ACT V – Balcony

The door leads you to the bar in the balcony, where you have some rally bizare petit fours

  • Amber – beautiful candies made to look like real amber
  • Candy Comb – this was no. 1 in the weird column of this whole experience and the only one that i tasted but didn’t eat since I just couldn’t with the flavor. It is a candied Rooster comb – literally, and sadly as good as an idea, i just could not with the texture or the flavor.
  • “Brændte Mandler”
  • Flavor Saver

EPILOGUE – Brainstorm

The elevator …

… and the brainstorm

These were the videos that I had of the dome settings

  • Under Water
  • Coral Bleaching
  • Expressionism
  • Future
  • Sakura
  • Disintegration
  • Heartbeat
  • Life
  • Membrane
  • Surveillance
  • ICU
  • Playtime
  • Kaleidoscope
  • Papercuts – this was the prettiest one and I didn’t take a video
  • Rabbit Hole
  • MC Escher
  • Bauhaus
  • Northern Lights
  • Embers
  • Space Junk
  • Spark
  • Seasons
  • Scales

Others I have that I really don’t know how they tie into the titles
