48 hours in Dehli

On my recent trip to India, I spent 48 hours in Dehli – what did I do (apart from nurturing my crazy jetlag) – here was my schedule:

12:30 arrival to the Imperial hotel and had lunch at Spice Route. I had heard great things about the restaurant and although beautifully set, the food did not have the kick that one expects from a place with such name. I ordered a ginger lobster and I couldn’t tell if it had ginger or not.

2:00 Drive around Rajpath, presidential palace and New Delhi, finishing off at the India gate

3:00. Visit to Humayun’s tomb

4:30 stroll through khan market. This was definitely not my favorite place for shopping – a little to hectic for my taste, although great feel for the city. Good sized Amrapali and good Earth inside.
As we were exhausted, dinner at the hotel  in 1771 and off to bed

Next Day:

9:00 visit to Jama Masjid.

On the drive from here to the red Fort, I was amazed at the crazy congested and tiny streets of old dehli, especially all the cables!

11:15 shopping at Santushti Shopping Complex. Such a cute little place, and it has Amrapali, anoushi, Ensemble and Ogaan.

12:30 lunch at Megu at the Leela palace hotel – where I proceeded to fall in love with this vase

2:30 qutb minar. This was my favorite place in Delhi. The stone work detail is just spectacular!

5: 30 shawl shopping at shaw brothers at defence colony. A great place for pashminas!

7:30 dinner at Indian accent. Amazing place, the food was spectacular. What did I order: Starters:  indian accent galawat, strawberry green chilli chutney, meetha achaar chilean spare ribs, sun dried mango, toasted kalonji seeds, potato sphere chaat, white pea ragda. Main course: kashmiri walnut paneer, spiced tomato curry and chicken coconut fry, idiyappam, pumpkin coconut curry . And for dessert: haji ali inspired custard apple cream  which was delicious!!
