Food Picture Diaries: Holiday NY Edition Part 2: Cosme, Dirty French and Marea

Cosme

I was very glad to get a reservation to try Cosme whilst i was there (I think me being really intense and reserving even before the restaurant opened helped). it far exceeds most Mexicans that I’ve had, and for those who like Mexican food, it should be a must try. Especially great were the home made tortillas, perfect size and the taste was incredible – also 100% corn which I always appreciate. This is what we ordered:

Cobia al pastor, pineapple sauce, cilantro – my favorite appetizer!
IMG_0539
Duck carnitas, white onions, radishes, salsa verde – my favorite entree
IMG_0540
Black garlic rubbed NY strip for tacos, fried shishitos, avocado-tarragon purée
IMG_0535
Half lobster pibil, chorizo, black bean and avocado leaf purée
IMG_0538
Burrata, salsa verde, weeds

Dirty French

Anyone who knows me knows that i am a sucker for bright pink and 80s music. Therefore the 80s playlist and the bright pink sign at the door of Dirty French had me at Hello

IMG_0766 The food is great too, the menu is a spin on traditional french food, with classic dishes with some sort of a twist. I am a big torrisi fan, and was a bit dissapointed with Carbone, but this one left me wanting to come back. This is what we ordered:

IMG_0750
Salmon Maison: POTATO, DILL, BLACKENING SPICES
IMG_0749
Carpaccio: LAMB, AUBERGINE, YOGURT
IMG_0755
Terrine: FOIE GRAS, CRISPY BRIC, BURNT LEMON
IMG_0760
Boulangère: LAMB SADDLE, POTATO, CUMIN – this is a terrible picture- great dish sort of moment. One of the tenderest lambs i have had, highly recommended!!!
IMG_0759
Côte de Boeuf

my family’s favorite part which i could not partake on (but they were raving about): the bread

there was also some fabulous wine involved: IMG_0758

and the decorations of the place were awesome, kind of insane but awesome. White busts around the top with red blood like eyes. IMG_0763

Marea

I went to marea for New Years Eve, and their fixed dinner menu was spectacular. Here are some of the pictures of what was had:

IMG_0625
A wonderful amouse bouche of truffle sandwich and borth

IMG_0647

IMG_0642
Lobster salad with truffle. This was my least favorite dish, it was trying too hard to be elegant and it just did not meld. Both the lobster and the truffle were not highlighted to their best

This is one of the prettiest plates Ive had and it tasted amazing too. Caviar, oyster, sashimi and uni a great crudo plate.
IMG_0671
Dover Sole Rissotto
IMG_0673
Most of the table got a black truffle lasagna, i got gluten free pasta with truffles which was exellent
IMG_0677
A very elegant and amazingly tasty take on the surf and turf.

The only disappointment is that they were so slow with dinner, that we left without dessert so we didnt not get to try it. And most importantly, we saw from instagram that they were giving gift baskets with homemade chocolates which we did not get!

Funny part of the night — the cooks chiming in at midnight with pots and pans

Highlight of the night: the wines, a tour of Italy 1999
